HISTORY OF SCHOOL OF NURSING OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MINHO

 

 

The School fo Nursing of the University of Minho is a higher education school dedicated to the training and development of nursing, having graduated more than 3000 highly qualified nurses.

Was created in 1912 under the authority of the Holy House of Mercy of Braga, is termed Nursing of the Hospital of St. Mark.

In May 1948 it approved its first regulation, changing its name to Dr. Nursing Henrique Teles. On 29 October 1961 the new school was inaugurated and was the construction financing and equipment offered by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, going through it to be called Calouste Gulbenkian Nursing. It was made official on November 16, 1977, began to constitute an official establishment endowed with technical and administrative autonomy.

By Decree-Law No. 480/88, of 23 December, the Nursing Education is integrated into the National Educational System within the Polytechnic. In this context, the school is reconverted in Nursing School by Decree No. 821/89 of 15 September.

Thus, in 1990 it was begun to higher education, with the Degree of Nursing, which conferred the bachelor's degree. In 1995, the application of Decree-Law No. 205/95, of 5 August, the school became an establishment of Polytechnic, with legal personality and administrative, financial, scientific and pedagogical.

In the academic year 1999/2000, by Order No. 799-D / 99 of 18 September, the School began Degree in Nursing and in July 2004, with the publication of Decree-Law No. 175 / 2004 the School of Nursing was built at the University of Minho.
